Questions to ask before you hire a commercial floor cleaning company

Taking pride in a building you own or the offices where you work is an important part of maintaining employee morale and retaining value in your investment.  Building maintenance is a critical part of that equation.  Making sure your asset is cleaned on a regular basis is crucial, but in addition, you will need deep cleanings from time to time.  This is especially true when it comes to carpets and flooring.

While there are many good services to choose from in New York City, hiring the right one can be a bit daunting if you’ve never done it before.  To help make the process easier, here are some questions to ask firms as you narrow down your search and make a decision.

Does the price include specialty treatments?  Some areas are high trafficked, others areas near entrances can get exceptionally dirty and grimy, especially during winter months when people track in sand, salt and moisture on their shoes and boots.  Many firms may charge more for these areas.

Will you move my furniture?  Some firms will move furniture as part of their base price.  Other firms will do it for an upcharge.  Make sure to ask up front so you are not surprised with sticker shock at some point.

Do you use a low or neutral pH cleaner?  Many companies use a high pH treatment on carpets because they work so well.  However, this also makes the carpets into magnets for dirt, meaning they become soiled easily. Hi pH treatments also can leave a carpet sticky or crunchy which can cause a carpet’s fibers to break down more quickly and shorten its useful life.  If a company uses a high pH treatment, ask if they will lower or neutralize the pH after the cleaning to help the carpet stay cleaner for a longer period.
